BullionVault is one of the simpler ways to buy real, vaulted gold online without dealing with coins, shipping, or home storage. You open an account, send money from your bank, then buy gold in grams and keep it in a professional vault.

This guide focuses on the two parts most beginners get stuck on: how to register and how to deposit money.

What BullionVault Is (Quick Overview)

BullionVault is not a gold ETF and it is not a coin shop. You buy a slice of professionally stored gold bars. The metal is allocated to you, stored in vaults such as London, Zurich, New York, Toronto, or Singapore, and audited daily.

The usual process is:

  1. Register
  2. Deposit money from your bank
  3. Buy gold
  4. Validate your identity

You can fund and start buying before validation is finished. You generally cannot withdraw until the account is validated.

How to Register for a BullionVault Account

Registration is short. Keep your username and password somewhere safe — the username becomes your account number and you will need it again when you send money.

  1. Go to BullionVault using this link: Start your BullionVault account here
  2. Click Open Account.
  3. Create a username. Use 6 to 12 letters and numbers with no spaces. This is the ID you will use to log in later.
  4. Enter an email address you actually check. Statements and deposit confirmations go there.
  5. Create and confirm a password. It is case sensitive.
  6. Read and accept the terms.
  7. Submit the form.

New accounts often receive a small trial amount of silver plus a little cash so you can look around the platform before sending real money. Write down the username immediately. You will need it as the payment reference on your bank transfer.

After the account is open, go to Account → Settings and:

  • Turn on two-factor authentication if available
  • Set your preferred currency (USD for most U.S. users)
  • Set your preferred vault if you already know where you want the gold stored

How to Deposit Money Into BullionVault

BullionVault does not take regular debit-card deposits the way a brokerage app does. You send money from your bank.

Important: After the first deposit, your BullionVault account is linked to that bank account. Later deposits should come from the same account, and withdrawals usually go back to that same account.

Step-by-step deposit process

  1. Log into BullionVault.
  2. Go to Account → Deposit Funds.
  3. Choose your country and the currency you want to send. BullionVault accepts U.S. dollars, British pounds, euros, and Japanese yen.
  4. Copy the exact bank details shown for that currency. Do not guess or reuse old details from a blog post. Always use the details inside your account.
  5. Send the payment from your own bank.
  6. Put your BullionVault username in the payment reference / memo field so they can match the money to your account.

Deposit options for U.S. users

  • Wire transfer — usually the fastest, but your bank may charge a wire fee
  • Online banking / BillPay / ACH Credit — you push money from your bank to BullionVault. This is not an ACH debit. BullionVault does not pull money out of your account.
  • Check — only from your linked bank account. Not a cashier’s check or money order. This is the slowest option.

BullionVault does not charge a deposit fee. Your bank might.

Deposits are processed during UK business hours. You should get an email when the money lands, and it will show under Currency on your Balance screen.

Common deposit mistakes

  • Forgetting to include your BullionVault username as the reference
  • Sending money from a different person’s account
  • Trying to set up an ACH debit / “link account so they can pull funds.” That is not how BullionVault works.
  • Sending a currency BullionVault does not hold and not checking the conversion details first

Validate Your Account After You Fund It

You should validate within about two weeks of funding. Log in, go to Account → Validation, and upload:

  • Photo ID — passport, driver’s license, or other government ID with your photo
  • Proof of the bank account — a recent statement showing your name and the account you used to send the money

PDF or JPG files are usually fine. Until validation is complete, you can typically buy gold, but you may not be able to withdraw.

What Happens After the Deposit Clears

Once the cash shows on your Balance screen:

  1. Go to Buy/Sell or use the buy panel on the Balance page.
  2. Choose gold and the vault location.
  3. Enter the amount in grams or in dollars.
  4. Review the order and confirm.

You can buy as little as 1 gram, but very small holdings are inefficient because gold storage has a monthly minimum fee. For many people, it makes more sense to treat gold as a larger savings position, not a $20 experiment.

If you want automatic monthly buying instead of placing each order yourself, BullionVault also has an Auto-Invest / Regular Gold Investment Plan. You still send deposits from the same linked bank account.

Costs to Know Before You Start

  • Account opening: free
  • Deposits: free from BullionVault (your bank may charge)
  • Buying/selling commission: up to 0.5% on the order board, lower after you trade larger amounts in a year
  • Gold storage and insurance: 0.12% per year, with a monthly minimum

Gold is not a substitute for an emergency fund. Keep short-term cash in a high-yield savings account first, then use gold as a longer-term holding if it fits your plan.

Final Thoughts

Getting started on BullionVault is mostly paperwork and a bank transfer. The two things that slow people down are using the wrong payment reference and skipping validation.

To recap:

  1. Open the account and save your username
  2. Send money from your own bank using the deposit details inside the platform
  3. Put your username in the payment memo
  4. Upload ID and a bank statement
  5. Buy gold after the cash appears on your Balance screen
